FOUNDER

SIGUNG  STAN LEE

1936 - 2003

After relocating to Edmonton from Hong Kong, Sigung (Grand Master) Stan Lee began passing on his knowledge to a few select students. At that point, he came to the realization that there existed a need for a Kung Fu studio in the Edmonton area. His aspirations for a place to train came to fruition in approximately 1969 when he was finally in a position to open the Canadian Ging Wu Kung-Fu Club.

SIFU BRENDAN LEE

​李家明师父

Sifu Brendan began his martial arts training under the watchful eyes of his father, Sigung Stan Lee. Honing his skill in the style of Hung Gar, he had the privilege of learning from many past and present instructors through the Canadian Ging Wu. Sifu Brendan achieved much success and respect in many competitions throughout western Canada and the U.S. He is now dedicating his time to teaching the next generation of martial artists.

SIFU DENNIS NGU

Sifu Dennis embarked on his martial arts journey in 1997, learning wing chun, hung kuen, chin woo, and fut san lion dance. His passion for the art grew as he gained interest in wushu and san da, further developing his acrobatic skills. He is known for his expertise in the 3 sectional staff and drunken fist form, winning many international tournaments with his performances. Sifu Dennis continues to inspire and lead students, and his 2 sons are also following his footsteps as a martial arts practitioner.

SIFU COREY DER

Sifu Corey has been a member of Canadian Ging Wu since 1995. Corey specializes with complex flexible weapons such as the nunchucks, 3 sectional staff, and the rope dart. Sifu Corey has represented the Canadian Ging Wu in many provincial and international tournaments. Through Ging Wu, Sifu Corey met his wife, Vicki, and currently resides in Calgary, pursuing his lifelong passion. Sifu Corey strongly believes that Ging Wu has played an integral role in shaping who he is today.

SIFU CHARLIE NGU

​伍振华师父

Sifu Charlie's participation in martial arts began in 1983 with Wing Chun. In 1984, he met Sifu Chau Wu and turned towards the study of Choy Lay Fut. From 1986 to 1993, he joined Shao Lin Siew Quan Martial Arts with Sifu Chau Wu, Sigung Stan Lee, and Sifu Steven Kho, where he studied kung fu and traditional lion dance. In 1995, nearly two years after Shao Lin Siew Wu Quan Martial Arts ceased operations, he joined the Canadian Ging Wu under Grand Master Stan Lee and is training and teaching there to this day.

SIFU CYNTHIA TANG

​曾惠婷师父

Sifu Cynthia began her martial arts career at the age of 8. She focused her training in Hung Gar and Modern Wushu primarily under the late Sigung Stan Lee, Sifu Brendan Lee, and Sifu Alex Kwok. In 2016, Sifu Cynthia became the youngest instructor to gain recognition as a Sifu. She has a wide range of experience with forms and weapons, specializing in double 9 sectional whip, southern broadsword, and 3 sectional staff. Cynthia has competed internationally and has achieved gold medal recognition on countless occasions. While Sifu Cynthia has scaled back her training and competitive career to focus on her family, she continues to find time to develop and influence all students towards black belt excellence.

SIFU ANITA TANG

​曾惠珊师父

Sifu Anita joined the Canadian Ging Wu in 1997. She began her training learning Hung Gar under the late Grandmaster Stan Lee, later focusing on northern style kung fu. Anita was successful in many international competitions in her junior years, with the most notable title of Junior Grand Championship at the 7th World Chin Woo Championship & Taiji Legacy held in Dallas, TX. Dedication and hard work led her to obtain her Black Belt in 2002, promotion to Sijie in 2006, and eventually, her most recent promotion to Sifu in 2020. Some of her specialties include lion dance, Law Horn forms, double broadswords, spear and fight set. Anita enjoys coaching students and participating in the organization’s charitable commitments in the community.

SIHING KEVIN BANG

兆登师兄​

Kevin started his training at Ging Wu in 2002. In 2009, he obtained his black belt, and just two years after, in 2011, Kevin was promoted to Sihing. His weapon of specialty is the staff. Sihing Kevin enjoys teaching lion dance, and he organized performances for the team. Today, he is taking a break to spend time with his family.

SIHING ANDY NGU

伍进辉师兄

Sihing Andy started training at Ging Wu in 1997. His dedication to martial arts is shown through numerous awards he has earned at provincial and international competitions over the years. Sihing Andy has had the opportunity of representing Canada on Canada's national San Da team in the 2006 World Junior Wushu Championships in Malaysia. He specializes in the staff, the nunchuks, and in San da, Chinese kickboxing. In recent years, Sihing Andy has been focusing on passing his knowledge to the next generation, and now leads the Ging Wu lion dance team.
